Coming soon…

At the very very tip top of not published 30 before 30 items is to launch my business website. I’m about 5/8s of the way there in that I have the name, the logo, the domain name and the legal rights to do it all… and even lots of things to add. I just don’t have the site built … yet. And I’m actually almost finished with that! It will be a site of party fabulousness of all types – baby showers, wedding showers, bachelorette parties, birthday parties for kids and kids at heart, anniversary parties, tuesday parties, political parties, monday lunch parties, etc…. you get the point.

There will, of course, be a “brought to you by” page within the site but I can go ahead and tell you the letters today’s post has been made possible by – MZ, AB and SBJ. It all goes back about 9 months ago when MZ was working stealthily for about 6 weeks with AB to get the legal rights to By Blonde assigned to me within the state of Arkansas which I have to say is by far THE BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER! I was presented with the paper work on my birthday and I put out feelers for some design work for my logo. Immediately, the talented and willing SBJ came forward, you can check out the sneak peak here on her blog The Dramatic!

So this is the project I’ll be busy with for quite a while and I’m excited to get everything in motion!

…and incase you are counting – 188 days until 30!

Baseball Baby shower

On Saturday, I hosted a baby shower for Lindsey and baby to be Rhett! It was a baseball theme and so we had ball park food like nachos, hot dogs and pretzels – of corse all had a touch of fabulous flair…

Pictures to come – I didn’t take any so I’m waiting on my co-hostesses to send them to me! =)

Bye Bye Smith Family! We’ll Miss YOU!

Today I helped host a going away party for our good friends Scott and Cheryl and their girls Cayden and Payton! They are moving to Houston in just a couple of weeks – Scott got a wonderful job offer that they could not pass up.
The theme of the party of course was “Western Chic” complete with cowboy hats and boots and lots of BLING. I always need an excuse to wear my cowboy boots and a dress, and this was IT – probably for the year… There was a kid corral for ALL the children, pretty sure MZ and I were the only ones without children but that’s totally fine.

I think it was a great way to send them off and it seemed like everyone really enjoyed the party. I will miss Cheryl a lot, she is such a great friend and is always a creative inspiration and fabulous to host parties with, so I’m losing my hostess buddy – we’ll have to have online parties or install a webcam to any parties going forward so she can still participate!

Miss Manners … I am, or atleast I play one on TV

In a long ago blog post on Mikes blog…add-i.blogspot.com he established that he is not Miss Manners. I, on the other hand, like to think I know a few things about how to act… some may disagree, but I doubt it. If so, let’s chat…over vodka.

There seems to be quite an abundance of double standard when it comes to what is socially correct in the realm of manners. Such as who orders first at dinner, how to set a proper buffet display and table setting, and how to win friends and influence people.
Here’s my nickel on those topics for today…
Ladies should order first, or at least start the succession of ordering, even if their are prominent members of any group there – this duty lies 99% on the server – they should just know better.
When setting food for a buffet/gathering, it should be placed in order in which it will be eaten – much like reading a book… I very recently noted a precise execution of this! Yes, you know who you are…
How to win friends and influence others is always a fun topic and a touchy subject for all parties involved. Most of us as people in general are not creatures of happy change – embrace it yes, accept it always and indefinably without reservation – NO!
The double standards jump out when things are forced…when the waiter has not a drop of formal training, when no one sets the table correctly and when anyone shows up unexpectedly and uninvited… precedence is not good – your first impressions do set standards that are hard to dig out of sometimes.
But the cure-all to every single one of these issues – you guessed it – VODKA! It’s amazing what adding a little potoato juice can do to every occasion, no matter what!

Things I believe in…

This is a totally random list of things that I think are important in life

    – for me.

They may not be for everyone, but hey, this is MY blog…

  • always sending thank you notes
  • being on time
  • planning ahead
  • … but still leaving room for spontaneity aka drama!
  • celebrating birthdays in a big way, any year every year
  • don’t give a gift you wouldn’t like to receive yourself … or buy for yourself
  • having a signature piece of flair
  • parties should always have a theme
  • Tailgating, even if you don’t go to the game, it’s ok to plan that from the beginning too
  • I was baking cupcakes before cupcakes were cool!
  • love at first site probably does exist but most of us are all too silly to realize it
  • what alcohol can’t cure, shopping can
  • you should be well versed enough to cuss someone out with actually cussing and without them really knowing you are
  • you should expirement in the kitchen – Taco Bell is pretty much always open if you burn something – that gives plenty of time to air out the house while you are gone too.
  • VOTE!!!
  • you should have a dog before you have children
  • yes, you really can relate everything in life to any number of episodes of Sex and the City!
  • babies and husbands do NOT make you complete, nor do your friends have to like them, they are both fulfilling and wonderful but not the only answer to a perfect life
  • no one has the perfect life
  • everyone has a 6th or even 7th sense to know when something is not right with you or with your friends – USE IT!
  • be loud, it normally works out well
  • there is always something to watch on Food Network and the History Channel
  • baking for someone is always appreciated
  • ghosts really do exist
  • Catholic School is a good thing!
  • you should always have TWO books in mind in case you are ever asked what’s the last book you read
  • the limb you’re out on… it might break, no matter how high up you are
  • you don’t have to buy something off the registry if you don’t want to, just make sure your gift is great
  • wrapping is part of the gift
  • always give to local charities
  • we should try to fix our own country before we try to save the world
  • Karma is HUGE and it will kick you ass – there are different kinds of Karma, I’ve learned parking karma at work from Nancy, Liz and I strive to achieve the highest level of dog karma
  • shopping in each others closets is one of the best ideas we’ve ever had
  • no matter what religion you are, you should read The Bible – that’s on my list of things to do – I admire my mother for having done this multiple times
  • Your true friends will always be there for you no matter what, men will not be so make sure your man is your best friend!

Pink Trash Ball 2008

Planning has officially begun!
Mark your calendars (and get a baby sitter) for Friday, September 19th – George’s Majestic Lounge! Ultra Suede will headline the event – it will, of course, be FABULOUS!

Baby Shower Happy Hour

The mother of all baby showers was this weekend – Baby Shower Happy Hour! It was for the always fantastic Melanie Neal in her anticipated birth of Scarlett Isabelle who will make her apperance sometime in mid August. Melanie and I first met when she hired me at Bath and Body Works – A LONG TIME AGO! She’s always been a party girl and famous for always getting the crowd at any bar to to a WOO WOO shot – I honestly think she made this up but, still it’s fun none the less. Here’s how that one works – 1) you must have a group of girls 2) you must tell the bartender what to make – I don’t even know the exact recipe but it’s normally “some rhum and some vodka and some … I don’t know, I’m already drunk, give me a damn shot of something tasty…

We had to go over the top with this shower – nothing but extravagance was expected. I’ve hosted quite a few showers – bachelorette, wedding, baby (normally in that order) but this has to be one of the most fun baby ones in a long time to plan!

Anyway here are some great pictures!!!
In sort of an order… the pictures are – the entry table with the invitation, nametags and Melanie’s Princess Crown and maternitini glass for the evening – a close up of her glass that Cheryl painted – out side we used large martini glasses filled with oversized silk flowers – we filled huricanes with an abundance of silk flowers to really embellish the look – next is the drink table and a close up of the individual glass decoration, each had a tag to ensribe your intitials as well as a pink crystal pacifier! -next is the food spread, it was great! – followed by the fabulous cake – then there is the group shot with Melanie in the middle – then the local hostesses, Sylvia, Chris, Carrie, Cheryl, me and Lindsey – and last but not least – Melanie doing her infamous WOO WOO shot – non-alcoholic of course.

Here’s to Baby Scarlett Isabelle – you are welcomed into this world by your mom’s fabulous friends! Of course, all of our children will party like we did not too long ago!
