Grammar Police – I vs. me

I have a feeling this will be a recurring theme – but hopefully an educational event!

This one is a huge pet peeve of mine… you see it misused everywhere and by everyone!!!
Today’s lesson: when to use I and when to use me.

When making a caption on a picture or talking about an event involving yourself and others, it is often confusing as to the best way to refer to oneself. Here is how to decipher between I and me…

A good test is to say the sentence using only the singular pronoun you are using to refer to yourself…. you would say “that’s me on the top of the mountain” so at the same time you would say “that’s Bob and me on top of the mountain.” The adverse to this would be to say that’s I on the mountain, consequently, you would not say that’s Bob and I on the mountain…

Here’s the example from the Chicago Manual of Style – feel free to use this link or ask me directly for any grammar questions!
Pronouns
Q. I am having trouble deciding if it is “Page and I” or “Page and me” in “Please let Page and me know.”
A. “Me” is correct, because it’s the object of the verb “let.” When you’re having trouble with “I” vs. “me,” try the same sentence without the double object: Please let me know. (You wouldn’t even consider saying “Please let I know.”) The reason “Page and me” sounds odd is that we’ve had it hammered into our brains for so long that “Page and I” is the correct usage when the phrase is the subject of a sentence (“Page and I are going,” not “me and Page are going”). People seem to have developed a fear of the “Page and me” construction. But when it’s the object of a verb or a preposition, it’s correct: Call Page and me when you’re ready. Give the money to Page and me.

Pink Trash Ball 2008

Planning has officially begun!
Mark your calendars (and get a baby sitter) for Friday, September 19th – George’s Majestic Lounge! Ultra Suede will headline the event – it will, of course, be FABULOUS!

It’s the Great Cupcake!!!

You’ve heard of the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown??? Well, this is soooo much better – it’s the Great Cupcake! I got this fabulous new toy today at Williams Sonoma – I love that store so much. I’ve threatened on many occasion to register there even though I’m not getting married or having a baby and even when I do have a baby – I may truly register at WS. I mean really, the kid and baby daddy will have to eat right?

I can’t wait to make a Great Cupcake Cake!

Also, for those keeping up, my PB Cup Chocolate Cake was a hit – or so I heard.

A day at the beach … or as close as you can to the beach in Arkansas = Stephanie’s Pool!

We all got the text early Saturday morning – “Open invite to come to Steph’s pool – BYOB – noon on…” or, as it was in our case until huge and threatening thunderheads roll in!

It was a great and relaxing afternoon. Stella brough Lindsey and Jason to play too! Stella is such a fish – she has no fear – watch out Mommy! I taught “Mommy and Me” swim lessons for about 8 years and it was so much fun to be back in the water with a brave little girl – that truly was one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve ever had – anyone need private swimming lessons?

Of course, what’s a pool party with out a beer, Stella even knows this.
We all had a great time and can’t wait to do it again soon! Thanks Stephanie!

Peanut Butter Cup & Chocolate Cake

Tonight I made a PB Cup & Chocolate Cake for Mike – hopefully it will help cheer him up. I don’t really like peanut butter mix in stuff – I like Reese’s PB cups and Reese’s Concretes from Shakey’s but not really things like PB cookies and stuff. But hopefully he will like it. Here is what it’s supposed to look like – my cake is still too hot to frost so I’ll have to do it tomorrow.

I’ll let you know how mine turns out…

My parents recently chilly in Chile

My parents went to visit my sister in Chile. The big news is that, yes, they survived the trip! We had our doubts that wouldn’t be detained or something and neither of them speak a drop of Spanish… They might could get by in Santiago with a phrase book, but Katie lives farther out on the coast in Vina del Mar. They were there for 10 days and experienced a soccer game, miles and miles of hiking up and down the streets due to public transit strikes and even Cuban cigars.

Here are pictures: 1) my parents and sister in Katie’s house 2) my parents and Katie and her friends 3) my mom and Katie… somewhere 4) my parents with Chile in the back ground

Baby Shower Happy Hour

The mother of all baby showers was this weekend – Baby Shower Happy Hour! It was for the always fantastic Melanie Neal in her anticipated birth of Scarlett Isabelle who will make her apperance sometime in mid August. Melanie and I first met when she hired me at Bath and Body Works – A LONG TIME AGO! She’s always been a party girl and famous for always getting the crowd at any bar to to a WOO WOO shot – I honestly think she made this up but, still it’s fun none the less. Here’s how that one works – 1) you must have a group of girls 2) you must tell the bartender what to make – I don’t even know the exact recipe but it’s normally “some rhum and some vodka and some … I don’t know, I’m already drunk, give me a damn shot of something tasty…

We had to go over the top with this shower – nothing but extravagance was expected. I’ve hosted quite a few showers – bachelorette, wedding, baby (normally in that order) but this has to be one of the most fun baby ones in a long time to plan!

Anyway here are some great pictures!!!
In sort of an order… the pictures are – the entry table with the invitation, nametags and Melanie’s Princess Crown and maternitini glass for the evening – a close up of her glass that Cheryl painted – out side we used large martini glasses filled with oversized silk flowers – we filled huricanes with an abundance of silk flowers to really embellish the look – next is the drink table and a close up of the individual glass decoration, each had a tag to ensribe your intitials as well as a pink crystal pacifier! -next is the food spread, it was great! – followed by the fabulous cake – then there is the group shot with Melanie in the middle – then the local hostesses, Sylvia, Chris, Carrie, Cheryl, me and Lindsey – and last but not least – Melanie doing her infamous WOO WOO shot – non-alcoholic of course.

Here’s to Baby Scarlett Isabelle – you are welcomed into this world by your mom’s fabulous friends! Of course, all of our children will party like we did not too long ago!

Beer, Pizza and Baseball

We’ve been to two Naturals games in the past month – both times with friends who get free tickets and both times we’ve all gone out for pizza before the game – we’re pretty predictable. The Naturals are the new minor league baseball team in Northwest Arkansas, the stadium is in Springdale and yes they do server beer which is really probably the best part about going to any ball park! The first game we went to was against the team from Midland, TX – they were really good and because of this, by 10 pm the game was only in the 4th inning and $5 a beer, that would make for an expensive night, so we went back to the house and popped in a movie. And in true form, I fell asleep as I always do once I get curled up on the couch! We made it through the 7th inning of the second game. Maybe next time we get invited to a game, we can all make it through the entire game and get to see the fireworks.

Wine Tasting 2008

Saturday night we went to the annual Art of Wine Event at the Walton Arts Center! It’s so much fun and we knew alot of people there. There were about 45 stations each had about 10 kinds of wine – you do the math – that’s ALOT of wine for one night. There were also some local resturants that had samples of their tasty delights as well! I’m not really a wine drinker per say – I like the really sweet stuff like Reisling and Moscato! They were well represented and I definately drank my share! I did get to try some new brands and some good favorites and now I’ll be a bit more educated at the liquor store. Here’s me and Mike, below is Heather, me and Stephanie.
